When a chap goes to the bar with the lads, he buys himself a beer. He might want a glass of wine, but he is bound by an unspoken covenant.
Perhaps, one day, he will pluck up the courage to order that glass of wine—an act of faith that will change the game for all those that follow. Alas, for now, the rules are the rules.
Beer it is.
