Photography Cartoons
Weekly Cartoon Email #169
Yesterday I ran into someone who used to work in a darkroom, developing photographs for a major photo finishing company. As soon as he told me this, I could smell the fixer chemicals.
This lead me to ask Google, “can you remember smells?”—sure enough, it’s called olfactory memory.
It works the other way around too, of course: smells provoke memories. This is why you can’t sniff cinnamon without feeling a bit Christmassy.

Nooks & Crannies of New York
As you probably know, my new book is now funded and we also hit our stretch goal. This week, the final pages were completed, including a chapter on the history of Scandinavian Research Goblins. Next week—real life proofs get made! In June, the book will go on general sale.
In case you missed it: here’s a 12 minute excerpt from my appearance on the New Yorker Caption Contest Podcast, talking about Nooks & Crannies of New York. Audio with illustrations:

Cinnamon, for me, smells like Home. I ate it in something almost daily, all year round - in hot chocolate, on milktart, in pumpkin fritters and sweet potato mash, and on french toast. It’s a staple.
P.S. Very excited about getting my booooook!
Hahaha - those duck faces with ye olde Selfies!
