I know some tricks when it comes to painting and decorating—cutting lines and masking things. Bedroom walls are my specialty.
Mind you, when it comes to art style painting, I still wear a bright orange life-jacket.

This being said, I’m finishing up a New Yorker cartoon as we speak, and the greyscale was done with an ink wash. Baby’s first ink wash.
There was a bit of cheating with Photoshop (see excerpt below), but still, what an adventure! As intrepid as Scott of the Antarctic.

Tool I wish I could use better: Proper pen and ink. When I do use Scrooge-style ink I get covered in it. All up my arms. Literally getting your hands dirty seems important for some reason—probably the same reason that makes using the computer feel naughty.* I do that sometimes in lieu of Tippex (Wite-Out) and to clean up the lines a little.
*Let me clarify: of course digital art is both rad and legit—but we both know it’s naughty.
