Lit Review of Canada, Animal Cover
Weekly Cartoon Email #47
Towards the end of last year, I made a wrap-around cover for the Literary Review of Canada. The issue just hit the shelves.
You can see the front half below, or visit my website to check out the whole thing.
When I started submitting cartoons to the New Yorker, my characters were a little weirder than they are now. Someone once described them as “noodle people” (see wormy, below).
Over the years, I’ve added noses and ears (see nosey).
This Christmas, I was given some lovely new pens. As I doodled with them, I saw my cartoon friends evolving again. Less exaggeration, more detail (see face man).
I’m not sure how much of this will stick, but it’s a reminder that experimenting with new tools is a great way to freshen up your process—and to try be open to change when it finds you.
I hope you have a happy New Year!
